Dennis Rainey: My guess is that you either need one, or you can be one. What am I talking about? Keep listening.

Guest: My wife and I were both mentored by her cousin and his wife. And this ministry has went on now for over 30 years, and it's just been a wonderful thing to have someone to minister to you in that way.

Dennis Rainey: I once observed a group discussing the needs of families in the church. Many of these men and women wanted help from someone who had already gone through what THEY were currently facing. They were not asking for perfect people, but for someone who just had not quit. They wanted mentors.

So many people today come from broken and dysfunctional families. Many young couples don't know how to handle basics like resolving conflict, money management, and child rearing. Everyone struggles with marriage and family issues, but, an older, mentoring couple can help a younger couple make it through the tough times. Why? Because they have MADE IT through those tough times themselves.

One final thought. Experienced husbands and wives who are willing to mentor others can bring healing, and hope, to a younger, wounded generation.

I'm Dennis Rainey, and that's Real Family Life.
